Our Commitment to Community"Berries

Our work would not be possible without the support and love of the communities who share their stories with us. At Makwa Creative we believe in centring the relationships we cultivate in everything we do and that means giving back in the name of reciprocity whenever possible.

Here are some of the ways we are showing our commitment to community.

Mashkawi-Manidoo Bimaadiziwin - Spirit to Soar Fund"Berries

The Spirit to Soar fund was created to support programs that are dedicated to providing Indigenous youth in the Thunder Bay region with the resources they need to stay safe during their transition to this urban centre. This fund aims to connect Indigenous youth to one another by building community and providing increased access to cultural, artistic, and community programming.

Funds raised will go directly to support community organizations that help amplify the Indigenous youth voice in the city and cultural programs which offer land-based trips to learn and connect with the language, family, tradition and Elders.

Anakay Meekwewin (The Passing of Gifts) Gathering - 2021"Berries

Anakay Meekwewin brought together Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and Language Speakers from across Anishinaabe Aki to Thunder Bay to discuss the broader topics involving Anishinaabe people and included First Nations youth from the Thunder Bay region. This gathering acted as a catalyst for intergenerational knowledge transfer by supporting our youth in learning the ways of the Anishinaabeg and our languages. In doing this, we can all move forward in the strength of knowing who we are and where we come from.

Makwa Creative is a proud sponsor of Anakay Meekwewin. Watch the video series now:
